Here is another slightly more formal Letter Retirement Sample for you to look at.  It deals with continuing to pay into the medical or life insurance plan and returning of the companies assets.  Even though it is slightly longer all the information is easy to find.

Dear _________ [Name of the Retiree's Supervisor]

This is to inform you about my impending retirement, effective _________ [provide the official date of retirement]. My retirement comes after _________ [mention the years of service] years of employment with _________ [mention the name of the company]. I wish to express my gratitude for your indefatigable support throughout my tenure. It has been an enriching experience to work in this organization.

I would also like appreciate the support provided to me by my colleagues throughout these years.

I would like to inform you that I wish to continue contributing to _________ [mention the name of the medical or life insurance plan] to ensure continued insurance coverage during my retirement.

I would like to inform you that all company assets have been relinquished (as per the attached list of items) and would request confirmation of receipt.

I would be obliged if you could kindly forward all correspondence in my name to the following _________ [provide the forwarding address] address.

Remember don't make your letter of retirement too long and hard to read, you want it to be short, to the point and easily read.
